What is the best material for bath towels?

There are dozens of available materials that fit different needs. Many agree, however, that cotton is the best material for bath towels. There are several reasons why. Firstly, cotton is a natural material and, when harvested responsibly, is one of the more sustainable resources. It is also very absorbent, making it perfect for bath linen. And it is ultra soft!

What does the weight of a bath towel mean?

If you’ve been looking at bath towels, you might have come across a weight scale. It can range from 300 grams per square metre (g/m²) to 900 g/m². But what does this entail?

When a towel weighs between 300 and 450 g/m², it is considered a lightweight towel. These towels absorb water fast and dry quickly. The midweight towels are towels that weigh between 450 and 550 g/m². These are the perfect combination of fast drying and voluminous. Towels that weigh between 550 g/m² and 600 g/m² are luxurious and feel like a warm hug at the end of a long day. When a towel weighs over 700 g/m², it might seem extra thick but will snag more easily and take longer to dry.

More towel tips

Choosing a towel goes further than sizes, materials and weight. You also need to know how many towels you need for your household. The rule generally is that you have three sets of towels per person. So, everyone has three hand towels, three bath towels, three maxi towels… With three sets on hand, you can have one set for present use, one set in the laundry and one clean set in your closet.

Another thing to keep in mind is your choice in colours. You want your towels to match the aesthetic of your bathroom while still adding a refreshing touch. You are sure to find the perfect fit with our towels in neutral, earthy or trendy colours. Read our blog post to learn more about the colours we offer.

The best way to wash and dry bath towels

To fully enjoy your bath towels for years to come, you should follow the care instructions. Most towels will have to be washed before the first use at a low temperature. Then you may wash them at 60 °C without softener as this could put a film on the fabric that will diminish absorbency. Read more on washing instructions on our blog.
